What a terrace garden costs per square foot, what adds to the price, and how to avoid leakage.
Part 1
The basic cost
A planted terrace with raised planters, soil, plants and drip irrigation starts at about ₹250 per sq ft in Pune. A 300 sq ft terrace therefore starts at about ₹75,000.
Prices are higher in Mumbai, Delhi NCR and Bangalore and a little lower in Indore, Ahmedabad and Kolkata, mainly because of labour and material costs.
Part 2
What adds to the price
Lawn or artificial turf, wooden or composite decking, a pergola or shade, garden lighting, water features and large trees in planters all add to the base cost. A detailed quote should list each of these separately.
Part 3
Avoiding leakage
Check the waterproofing before building. Use raised planters or a drainage-cell layer with a root barrier, keep drain outlets clear, and do not pile wet soil directly on the slab. Built this way, a terrace garden does not cause leakage.
