How green walls are built, which plants work indoors and outdoors in India, what they cost and how they are maintained.
Part 1
Live or artificial
A live green wall is real plants in modules or pockets fixed to a frame, watered by an automatic drip system. It needs light, a water point and monthly maintenance, and it looks and smells alive. An artificial wall uses UV-stable, fire-retardant foliage and needs no water or light, which suits dark lobbies, basements and places without plumbing.

How a live wall is built
The wall is first checked for strength and moisture. A frame is fixed with a waterproof backing sheet and an air gap, so the building wall itself stays dry. Modular planters or felt pockets are mounted on the frame, drip lines run along each row, and a timer controls watering. Excess water is collected in a tray at the base.
Part 3
Plants that work
Indoors, choose plants that tolerate low light: pothos, philodendron, syngonium, peace lily, ferns and aglaonema. Outdoors in Indian sun, hardier plants such as asparagus fern, rhoeo, wedelia, portulaca, ixora and ornamental grasses last longer. Mixing textures and leaf colours in bands gives a wall its pattern.

Cost and care
Our green walls start from ₹450 per sq ft for artificial walls; live walls cost more because of the frame, irrigation and plants, and carry a monthly maintenance contract. The price depends on size, height, access and whether a water point exists.
A live wall needs a visit every week or two to check drippers, trim, feed and replace any plant that declines. Most failures come from blocked drippers or too little light, not from the plants themselves.
