Local conditions
Planning for Hyderabad's climate
Fig. 01Climate and soil
Hyderabad has a hot, dry summer, a moderate monsoon and rocky or red soil. Gardens here need soil building, drip irrigation and heat-tolerant plants.
Fig. 02When to plant and how to care
Plant in the monsoon from late June to September. October to February suits flowers and vegetables. From March to May, shade young plants and water daily.
Garden Maintenance Services · Hyderabad
Keeping a lawn alive through April and May
Hyderabad's summer is long and dry, with temperatures often above 40°C from April to June, and almost all of its roughly 860 mm of rain falls between June and October. Garden maintenance in Hyderabad is planned around that split, and our contracts cover offices in HITEC City, units in Genome Valley and the industrial estates, hospitals, colleges, gated communities and large bungalows.
Watering is the main job in the hot months. A sprinkler line that fails for two days in May leaves brown patches that take weeks to fill, so irrigation upkeep is checked on every supervisor visit before summer sets in.
Lawns are mowed less often and less short while the grass is under heat stress, hedges get light trims, and seasonal planting waits for the rains. Potted plants in lobbies and on terraces are moved or shaded where the afternoon sun is harshest.
Trees under WALTA
Trees in Telangana are protected under the Water, Land and Trees Act, 2002. Inside the Outer Ring Road, an eight-member Tree Protection Committee with members from GHMC, HMDA, the roads department, the forest department and NGOs decides felling requests.
For fewer than 10 trees, an application can be made online through TS-iPASS, with twice as many trees to be planted in return. On a maintained campus, regular pruning, pest and disease control and watering of young trees aim to keep trees healthy, so felling is rarely the question.
When the monsoon arrives
From June the growth comes quickly. Mowing, weeding and hedge trimming run weekly, seasonal beds are planted to catch the rain, and manure goes into beds and tree basins.
One contract can cover a HITEC City office and a plant on the city's edge, each with its own deployed gardener, replacement cover when a gardener is on leave, and one monthly report with photos.
