Four months of growth and standing water
Once the monsoon sets in, grass, weeds and creepers grow fast, and lawns on low ground stay waterlogged for days. Mowing is fitted between showers, weeding runs every week, and garden drains are kept clear of leaves and cuttings so water can run off.
Leaves that stay wet for weeks invite fungal disease on lawns and leaf spot on shrubs. Pest and disease control is busiest in the monsoon and just after it, when beds and potted plants are checked for rot.
After the rains
From October the city dries out and the work shifts to watering, irrigation upkeep and replanting flower beds for the mild winter, the best season for seasonal flowers in Mumbai.
