For Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad

We design and build gardens around homes: the front garden and entrance, the side strip, the back lawn, a courtyard or a housing society's common garden. You get a scaled drawing and a plant list suited to your city's weather and your hours of sun, then our team lays the beds, lawn, paths, edging, lighting and drip irrigation, and plants it. After handover the garden can be looked after on a monthly plan.

Our Pune office serves Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Baner, Wakad, Magarpatta, Hadapsar, Koregaon Park, Kalyani Nagar and Aundh.

Who it is for — Bungalow, villa and row-house owners, builders handing over homes, and housing societies.

Local conditions

Planning for Pune's climate

Fig. 01Climate and soil

Pune has a mild climate for most of the year, a monsoon from June to September and a dry, hot spell from March to May. Most tropical indoor plants and lawns do well if they are watered deeply through the summer.

Plant new gardens and trees at the start of the monsoon in June and July. Winter flowers go in from October. From March to May, increase watering and shade young plants on terraces.

Garden Design and Landscaping for Homes · Pune

A layout drawn around the soil and the rain

Most home gardens in Pune are laid on black cotton soil, the Deccan clay that stays sticky through the monsoon and splits into deep cracks by April. Garden design and landscaping in Pune therefore starts underground: beds are raised and opened up with sand and compost, paths get a compacted base so they do not heave, and lawns are kept to the parts of the plot that people actually walk on. We design and build these gardens for bungalows in Koregaon Park and Kalyani Nagar, row houses in Baner, Aundh and Wakad, and society gardens across the city.

Pune gets most of its year's rain between June and September and very little for the eight months after. A garden drawn for this city slopes its beds and lawn gently towards a drain or a soak pit, so July rain runs off instead of sitting on clay, and runs drip lines to every bed so the same garden does not dry out in March.

Where the plot has no topsoil worth keeping, the planting beds are filled with a lighter mix and edged in stone or brick, and the open ground between them becomes gravel, pavers or stepping stones rather than a lawn that would struggle on raw clay.

Plants that suit a Deccan garden

Bougainvillea, tagar, jaswand (gudhal), kanher and champa take Pune's dry summer once they are rooted, and mogra and parijatak give scent close to the house. Shade-loving foliage, ferns and peace lilies go under existing trees and on north-facing sides, which stay cooler through April and May.

Mango, grape and orange are long-established orchard crops in Pune district, so a mango or a citrus tree can share the back garden with ornamental planting without guesswork about whether it will take.

When to build, and trees already on the plot

We like to finish ground work, paths and drainage before June and plant at the start of the monsoon, when the rain does the first weeks of watering. Work started in October has a long dry season ahead, so it relies on drip from day one.

Trees on private land in Pune are protected under the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, and older bungalow plots often carry large ones. The layout is drawn around existing trees, and any pruning they need is applied for with the PMC Tree Authority first.

Questions

Frequently asked

Can a lawn grow on black cotton soil in Pune?

Yes, if the top layer is dug, opened up with sand and organic matter and graded to drain before the grass is laid. On raw black soil a lawn usually cracks and thins within a year.

When is the best time to build a home garden in Pune?

Finish the ground work before June and plant as the monsoon starts, so the rain helps new plants root. A garden built after October can be planted too, with drip irrigation running from the first day.

Can you redesign a garden around the old trees on our bungalow plot?

Yes. We draw the new beds, paths and lawn around trees worth keeping. Any pruning they need is applied for with the PMC Tree Authority before the work starts.

Do you design society gardens in Pune as well as private ones?

Yes. A society garden gets the same drawing and plant list, planned around the children's play area, walking paths and the time the society's gardener can give it.

Do you provide garden design and landscaping for homes across Pune?

Yes. We work across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, including Hinjewadi, Kharadi, Viman Nagar, Baner, Wakad and Magarpatta.

What does garden design and landscaping for homes cost in Pune?

Garden Design and Landscaping for Homes in Pune is priced for each project in a written proposal, since the cost depends on the space, the crops and how much is automated.

Do you have an office in Pune?

Yes. Garden & Acre has an office in Pune, and our Pune team handles installation and maintenance across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad.

What does garden design include?

A site visit, a scaled layout drawing, a plant list chosen for your sun, soil and city, and a list of materials for beds, paths and watering. If you want, our team then builds and plants it.

How is the price of a home garden worked out?

From the area, the share that is lawn, beds or paving, the size of plants you want on day one, and whether irrigation and lighting are included. You get a fixed figure in a written proposal after the site visit.

Can you redo an existing garden instead of starting fresh?

Yes. We keep the healthy trees and shrubs, move what is in the wrong place, and redesign the beds, lawn and paths around them.

Do you design small gardens and side strips?

Yes. Narrow side strips, small front gardens and courtyards often need the most careful plant choice, because every plant is seen up close.

Will the garden need a gardener every day?

No. We design for the upkeep you can give: drip on a timer, plants suited to the site, mulched beds and less lawn where it would struggle. A weekly or fortnightly visit keeps most home gardens in shape.
